Interview. Gretchen Whitmer runs for Governor in Michigan

Gretchen Whitmer talks about her run for Governor, her love of Michigan and her insights about this very special year for women and politics.

When we asked Gretchen about being a native Michigander, Gretchen says, “I’m proud to be a Michigander. Twenty percent of the fresh water in the world is here. ” When we asked her about the moment she decided to run, she reflects, “The Flint water crisis was the last straw.”

The challenges for running as a woman? “I’ve found I get compared to other women by men. But, I will carry my own baggage,” What about any insights for the first time women candidates? “Jump in.” Whitmer says. “When more women run, more women will win.”
